Convert level-70 resilience rating into the three defensive effects used in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade: reduced chance to receive a critical hit, reduced critical-strike bonus damage, and reduced periodic damage. You can also enter a target percentage to work backwards to a rating.

Uses the level-70 Burning Crusade conversion of 39.4 resilience rating per 1% resilience. This is a planning estimate, not a combat simulator.
TBC resilience quick answer
At level 70, 39.4 resilience rating gives 1% resilience. That 1% lowers the chance that an enemy critically hits you by 1 percentage point, lowers critical-strike bonus damage by 2 percentage points, and lowers periodic damage by 1%.
Resilience formula
Resilience percentage = resilience rating ÷ 39.4
The calculator then reports the effects separately:
- Critical-hit chance reduction = resilience percentage.
- Critical-strike bonus-damage reduction = resilience percentage × 2.
- Periodic-damage reduction = resilience percentage.
- Rating needed for a target = target percentage × 39.4.
Worked examples
Example 1: 200 resilience rating. Dividing 200 by 39.4 gives about 5.08% resilience. The character receives about 5.08 percentage points less enemy critical-hit chance, 10.15 percentage points less critical-strike bonus damage, and 5.08% less periodic damage.
Example 2: a 5% target. Multiply 5 by 39.4. The calculator returns 197 resilience rating. Gear only comes in fixed stat amounts, so your practical total may land slightly above or below that number.
What critical-damage reduction means
The critical-damage output is shown as a reduction to the bonus part of a critical strike, not a flat reduction to every point of damage. For a simple attack whose normal critical hit deals 200% damage, 5% resilience reduces the 100% critical bonus by 10 percentage points. Actual combat damage can still vary because abilities, talents, armor, resistances, buffs and debuffs have their own effects.
How to use the calculator
- Enter the resilience rating shown on your level-70 character sheet.
- Review each defensive effect; they are not interchangeable.
- Enter a target critical-hit chance reduction if you are planning upgrades.
- Use the copy button to save the result beside your gear plan.
Important limitations
This tool uses the level-70 Burning Crusade rating conversion. It is not intended for level 60, Wrath of the Lich King, Retail, private servers with custom rules, or other game versions. It does not simulate armor, resistance, avoidance, class talents, attacker stats, healing, crowd control or the probability distribution of an entire arena match. It also does not recommend a universal “best” resilience total: the useful trade-off depends on class, role, bracket, team composition and the stats sacrificed to obtain more resilience.
